Clifton Collins Jr. has been tapped to star in the new independent drama The Perfect Game. According to Variety, Cheech Marin, Emilie de Ravin, Lou Gossett Jr., Bruce McGill and Patricia Manterola will also be starring in the film.

The plot revolves around ex-baseballer Cesar Faz, a man who cannot compete with the racism he encounters after joining the Major Leagues. He returns home to Mexico to coach little league. He is able to take his team all the way to the finales.

Angels in the Outfield director William Dear will be behind the lens of this one as well. W. William Winokur wrote the script. He has set the film in 1957, and based it loosely on a true story.

The film will start shooting on June 15th.
