While many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “old guard,” such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America, have come to the end of their respective journeys, this is unlikely to be the case for Jeremy Renner’s founding Avenger, Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye. With the character’s self-titled Disney+ series introducing Barton’s protégé Kate Bishop, many had assumed that this would mark the end of Renner’s superhero tenure, but according to producer Trinh Tran, there are still many stories left to be told.

"There are always new stories to be told, especially with Clint Barton. There is so much more to explore. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, but it's amazing to work with Jeremy. He loves his character, He's the only person who really knows who Clint Barton is. I think there are possibilities. We'll see."

Despite possessing no superpowers, other than his ability to fire arrows at a target no matter the circumstances, of course, Clint Barton has held his own against all manner of Gods, genocidal alien invaders, and armies of robots hell-bent on destroying the world. It is indeed this normality that Tran feels makes Barton’s Hawkeye so endearingly popular.

"I think that's one of the biggest reasons the public likes him. He's one of the only heroes without superpowers, but he always saves the day. He is an ordinary man. The message is that if you put in the effort, you can do anything. He can be alongside the other Avengers, who can fly and have special abilities, and be able to fight and do whatever it takes to save the world. I think this is very inspiring for viewers. You can make effort and you don't need superpowers to be a hero."

Hawkeye will take Marvel fans on an unexpected holiday getaway courtesy of Disney+ and Marvel Studios. Set in post-blip New York City, former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. While this should be more than possible for the man who fought alongside the likes of Thor and Iron Man, it proves more difficult than first thought, with Barton needing the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The pair are forced to work together when a presence from Barton's past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.

Starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld as Clint Barton and Kate Bishop respectively, Hawkeye also stars Vera Farmiga, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, and Brian d'Arcy James, with Fra Fee joining the MCU as the villainous Kazi alongside Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez AKA Echo, a deaf superhero who can perfectly copy another person's movements and will soon become the subject of her own spin-off Disney+ series.

While the potential plans for Clint Barton’s future in the MCU remain unknown, it’s worth noting that Jeremy Renner recently declared his love to the Old Man Hawkeye arc, meaning that the actor could be involved in the Marvel fray for much, much longer than anyone expected. "Yeah, I love it. Old Man Hawkeye,” Renner said. “Yeah, I hope I'm a super joyful Hawkeye. If I'm that old, I hope I just forget all the bad things that happen in life, and he's just happy. He's happy Hawkeye. He's 80, he can't move, he's got a terrible limp, but he's so happy!"

Hawkeye is available now on Disney+, and will conclude on December 22 as part of Phase Four of the MCU. This comes to us courtesy of Cine Pop.
