2019 is going to be the biggest year yet when it comes to Netflix original movies and TV shows, and they are kicking the new year off with a bang quite literally. Today, we have the first trailer and poster for the action thriller Close starring Naomi Rapace, which will launch exclusively on the premium streaming service this month.

Close isn't wasting anytime from showing off its first trailer to its debut, with the hard-hitting drama arriving on Netflix in just the next two weeks, debuting Friday, January 18. The window between when they show off their next big release and when it actually arrives is shrinking by the minute, to appease the 'gotta have it now' culture they've helped create.

Close is an adrenaline-pumping action thriller written and directed by Vicky Jewson (Born of War). The drama is inspired by the life of the world's leading female bodyguard, Jacquie Davis. The film stars Noomi Rapace as Sam, a counter-terrorist expert used to war zones, who takes on the job of protecting Zoe (Sophie Nelisse), a young and rich heiress, a babysitting job for her. But a violent attempted kidnapping forces the two to go on the run. Now they've got to take some lives, or lose theirs.

Director Vicky Jewson made her directorial debut in 2008 with the horror romance Lady Godiva at just the age of 21. She followed that up in 2014 with the war torn revenge drama Born of War. Close will be her third feature, having written or collaborated on all the scripts for her previous movies. She is also working on the TV series Crumbs.

The story in Close is a fictionalized account of real-life bodyguard Jacquie Davis, who counts J.K. Rowling, Nicole Kidman, and members of the British royal family as some of her high profile clients. Davis served as a consultant on the movie, and worked closely with Rapace in bringing her onscreen persona to life on the big screen. Rapace said this to Entertainment Weekly about working with the bodyguard on the movie, who trained in London with The Circuit, a British organization for close protection officers.

"I've always been so fascinated by female bodyguards. I was obsessed with their world and how good they are at leading people and blending in and basically not taking up any space. They're behind you or in front of you, but they walk with you. It's almost like a dance. It's just a very intriguing, kind of hidden and secretive world."

Noomi Rapace made a name for herself around the world when she starred as Lisbeth Salander in the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. She has gone onto take quite a few prominent roles in big Hollywood movies, starring in the Alien prequel Prometheus and the Sherlock Holmes sequel Game of Shadows opposite Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. She says this about her new character Sam.

[She] would die for the people she protects, but she also has a lot of ghosts from her past that she's not really dealing with, and she doesn't have a lot of personal relationships. She doesn't let people in."

Close is just one of hundreds of new movies that will be streaming on Netflix in the next twelve months, but it's already gaining a strong reputation as one of the biggest releases action fans simply can't miss.
