Cloudy With a Chance of MeatballsIt was raining all sorts of food down on the DVD charts this week, with Sony's animated film at the top of the heap. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs swept all three home video charts, coming out on top in DVD sales, rentals and Blu-ray sales.
The film was the first to bring The Hangover's reign atop the charts to a close, with the film slipping to second place, for the week ending January 10, after three straight weeks atop the DVD sales charts. The Todd Phillips comedy fell pretty far as well, selling only about half as many units as Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs did. The only other notable newcomer to the charts this week was the 3D thriller The Final Destination, which came in third place in DVD sales and sixth place on the rental charts.
Rental holdovers remained solid, with Paranormal Activity and District 9 holding down the second and third spots for a second straight week. The Hangover dropped to fourth place on the rental charts while Inglourious Basterds took fifth place in rentals.
While Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs completed the sweep with a win on the Blu-ray sales charts, it wasn't as close as its other victories this week. The Hangover dropped to second place in BD sales this past week, but it still had a higher ratio of BD sales. A robust 29% of The Hangover's sales this week were in Blu-ray while only 18% of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' total sales were in the 1080p format.
