Back in summer 2007, audiences who flocked to theaters for Transformers were given the first look at a mysterious trailer, which offered no official title and didn't list any cast members. All that was given was the release date (January 18, 2008) in this mysterious footage. The movie was eventually revealed as Cloverfield, from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot production company. Last month, Bad Robot unveiled a new surprise, the first trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, a project which had previously been referred to as Valencia and The Cellar. Entertainment Weekly recently spoke to 10 Cloverfield Lane producer J.J. Abrams, who teased that there is an idea in play that could connect both this new movie and Cloverfield to a larger universe. Here's what he had to say, when asked to address rumors that the movie is part of an original anthology series, teasing that Cloverfield 3 may be in the works.

"I think that would be presumptuous, because we're talking about this movie and comparing it to Cloverfield, but I would be lying if I didn't say there was something else that, if we're lucky enough to do it, could be really cool that connects some stories. This is just this movie, and it's only two films that we're talking about right now. There is something else that we'd like to do, and hopefully we'll get a shot."

This project first surfaced back in April 2014, when Dan Trachtenberg signed on to make his directorial debut, following the success of his beloved fan film Portal: No Escape. The project was initially set up under Paramount's Insurge banner, an off-shoot of the studio that focused on making low-budget films for under $5 million. The movie was shot and completed, with a cast that includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr., before Paramount shut down its Insurge banner.

A report surfaced last month that claimed Paramount picked up the project and brought on Daniel Casey and Damien Chazelle to perform some rewrites. 10 Cloverfield Lane then reportedly underwent some reshoots last March to connect this to the Cloverfield universe. None of these details have been confirmed, but producer J.J. Abrams did say last month that they had the idea long ago that this movie would be a "blood relative" to the original Cloverfield.

10 Cloverfield Lane centers on a young woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead who wakes up in a bunker, where a mysterious stranger (John Goodman) says he saved her after a car accident. He also reveals that the outside world is now uninhabitable due to a massive chemical attack. Do you hope 10 Cloverfield Lane does spawn some sort of Cloverfield anthology? What do you hope to see in Cloverfield 3?
