CMON are one of the premiere names in the field of board game design who as their name suggests are best known for pushing the boundaries on the quality of miniatures used in tabletop games. The publisher first shot to prominence in 2012 with the launch of Zombicide which at the time broke the record for the most money ever earned by a board game on Kickstarter. It’s a record they’ve broken many times since, not least at all by the second edition of Zombicide which raised over four times the amount of the original game netting an astounding $3.4 million.

In fact, the Zombicide series has taken on a life of its own for the publisher spawning seven sequels, multiple expansions, a graphic novel and a tabletop RPG. The core game is known for riffing on pop culture but some entries have existed as full crossovers with a Night of the Living Dead adaptation released last year and an Army of the Dead version already announced for the coming year. CMON has now announced that the latest entry into the series will use the Marvel Zombies license.

CMON had been teasing something significant to celebrate their 50th Kickstarter campaign and just recently they sent a 2ft tall zombie Galactus figure to a number of top board game YouTubers before unveiling the details of their latest project a few days later. The Galactus in question will likely be an ornamental extra however the game will feature an expansion centred around the behemoth.

Other popular characters already confirmed for the game include Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Scarlett Witch, Deadpool and Captain Marvel to name a few, some of whom will be heroes and some zombies. Early details suggest players will be able to take control of either side whilst attempting to complete some story-driven scenarios. Fans of CMON will already know to expect dozens more character reveals over the course of the Kickstarter campaign.

It is unclear at the point how closely the publisher will attempt to tie the project to the recently announced Marvel Zombies animated series coming to Disney +. Fans waiting for a screen adaptation of the popular Marvel story got their first glimpse at the world in Marvel’s What If TV series that aired earlier this year. The episode in question, What If...Zombies?!, was one of the highlights of the nine-episode series and the idea has now been picked up for its own series.

Zombicide’s take on the Night Of The Living Dead followed the plot of the movie exactly, dramatically slowing the pace of the series’ usually bombastic gameplay. Likewise, although little is known about it at this point, the Army Of The Dead version is expected to tie into the events of Zack Snyder’s expanding universe at least recreating the plot of the first movie.

The Kickstarter for the Marvel Zombies board game is available to follow now and is expected to launch in early 2022. That means it won’t likely be released until mid-2023 at the earliest so there is plenty of time for the Disney + series to arrive first, possibly even around the same time. Given the track record and the coincidental timing of the announcements, it’s highly likely the two will crossover in some significant way.
