CMT is gearing for the second season of The Singing Bee, ordering 20 episodes which doubles the network's previous commitment to the show.
According to Variety, new episodes will begin taping in November for a January season premiere, with Melissa Peterman returning as host. The Singing Bee is CMT's top-rated series of 2009, with its Aug. 15 season finale garnering 848,000 viewers. The season averaged 664,000 total viewers per episode in its first season on CMT.
The sing-along competition show launched in the U.S. on NBC in July 2007 with Joey Fatone as host and a pop-oriented format. It did not make it to a second season on the Peacock. CMT picked up the series in April, gave it a country spin and premiered it in June.
The format has aired in more than 40 countries.
