SPOILERS for the ending of Cobra Kai Season 4 ahead.

Cobra Kai co-creator Hayden Schlossberg has now provided some insight into that surprise cameo that had us all cheering and karate-chopping the air with glee at the very end of season 4. With the All-Valley tournament lost along with any sense of hope, Daniel LaRusso reaches out to a familiar face from his past: The Karate Kid Part II’s Chozen Toguchi, played once again by Yuji Okumoto. With the once warring pair having made amends during the third season of Cobra Kai, Schlossberg, while speaking with Comicbook.com, has teased what Chozen’s return means for season 5.

"When Daniel went to Okinawa [in Cobra Kai Season 3], we saw that Chozen had lived this life of shame, coming off the events of Karate Kid II. And that Daniel coming to Okinawa gave him an opportunity to redeem himself in his eyes. And we always felt that he showed him a couple moves, but he's always going to feel that responsibility to help Daniel."

Cobra Kai Season 4 leaves Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence in a worse situation than ever, forced to close their schools and thus allow Cobra Kai to take hold of the Valley. So, it seems that Daniel felt he had no choice but to involve Chozen in the ongoing karate battle. And who could blame him?

"And so, the fact that at the end of Season 4, things are worse than they've ever been. Cobra Kai is more popular than it's ever been, with Terry Silver relishing it and in full force and Daniel supposedly having to shut down Miyagi Do. That when you think about it from Daniel's perspective, what does he have to come back from this?"

The central antagonist of the 1986 sequel The Karate Kid Part II, Chozen’s approach to martial arts has often been shown to be just as violent and vicious as Terry Silver, making him the perfect person for Daniel to reach out to. While he has now been redeemed, audiences can expect Chozen to be asked to reach down into the depths of darkness he has moved on from in order to take the fight to Terry Silver, who will reach a new level of villainy come season 5.

Cobra Kai Could Be More Deadly Than Ever Thanks to Chozen Versus Silver

"He does have somebody else who knows Miyagi-Do karate that is in our minds, willing to fight for the death for him to prove himself,” Schlossberg continued, before teasing the deathly heights that Cobra Kai season 5 could reach. "The possibilities now are endless. Obviously, things could get really heightened because you know that Chozen is the type of guy who, at least in Karate Kid II, was willing to fight to the death. And we know that Terry Silver is willing to go to crazy lengths, to stay in power, especially after what he did to Stingray in season four. So it has the makings for a big action-packed season. And we just finished shooting it and, and it is. And so, we're looking forward to fans, checking it out."

The first four seasons of Cobra Kai are now available on Netflix, with season 5 having wrapping filming and likely to once again be released towards the end of the year.
