Expect Cobra Kai season 5 to be its craziest one yet. Last year, fans were treated to not just one, but two seasons of the hit series that serves as a follow-up to The Karate Kid. Season 3 premiered at the start of the year on Jan. 1 with season 4 capping off the year on Dec. 31. We know that season 5 is already on the way, and better yet, it's already been wrapped, though it's still unknown when the new episodes will premiere on Netflix.

Originally launched on YouTube, Cobra Kai is created by Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg. Speaking with Deadline at the PGA Awards, Hurwitz offered a tease of what fans can expect in the new season. This includes a "lot of insanity," as well as a "lot of karate" and perhaps some more familiar faces for fans of the Karate Kid movies. As Hurwitz puts it:

“Season 4 everyone knew that we were heading toward a tournament — season 5, no one knows where we are headed. We do, because we already made it. There’s a lot of insanity; if you’re a fan of the franchise, maybe some familiar faces show up, maybe not; there’s going to be a lot of karate.”

Heald goes on to tease the story heading into unexpected directions following the shocking ending of the fourth season, in which The Karate Kid Part III's Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) helped the "bad guys" win.

"The bad guys won in season 4, so there’s going to be some hell to pay, whether there’s more hellfire or retribution. There’s a lot of people punching each other, kicking other, but the story is going to go in a new way that no one can possibly predict.”

Cobra Kai Could Last a Few More Seasons

Every season of Cobra Kai has been a hit with fans, but how long can they keep this up? The Cobra Kai team doesn't have a particular stopping point in mind, although they do have an idea on how to wrap up the story. For now, they're committed to keeping it going and are clearly open to having that take more seasons past the upcoming season 5. In fact, Schlossberg reveals that they even have "a few more seasons" plotted out if it comes to that.

“We have an end in mind. How many seasons it takes to get there, we don’t know. We’re enjoying making it so much. If it gets tiring to us, we’ll stop before that; we have a few more seasons already planned out.”

Cobra Kai first debuted on YouTube Red in 2018 before moving to Netflix ahead of its third season. A sequel to The Karate Kid trilogy, it brings back many legacy stars including William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Martin Kove, and Thomas Ian Griffith. Its new cast includes Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Peyton List, and Vanessa Rubio.

The first four seasons of Cobra Kai are streaming on Netflix. Season 5 does not yet have a release date.
