Cutting the head off the snake (not literally) is the order of the day in the first trailer for Cobra Kai Season 5. Released courtesy of Netflix, the trailer offers a whole host of new footage from the hugely popular show’s next season, as well as revealing that Cobra Kai Season 5 will land on the streaming platform on September 9.

Cobra Kai Season 5 will see Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) attempt to take down the villainous Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) and his Cobra Kai dojo, which now has a stranglehold on the Valley.

Following the shocking results of the All-Valley Tournament, Terry Silver is expanding the Cobra Kai empire and trying to make his "No Mercy" style of karate the only game in town. With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence setting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he's caused, Daniel LaRusso must call on an old friend for help.

Cobra Kai Season 5 Will Could be the Most Intense Yet

Season 4 of Cobra Kai, which hit the streaming service at the end of last year to much acclaim, ended with Martin Kove’s character John Kreese being dragged off to prison by the police, allowing his partner in crime and karate to take over the legacy of Cobra Kai. Betrayed and framed for assault, Cobra Kai Season 5 will show us how well the merciless and manipulative Kreese will fare behind bars. Make no mistake, he will be looking for revenge.

Cobra Kai Season 5 not only finds Kreese on the backfoot, but it will also see Terry Silver rise quickly to the head of the evil karate-infused antics that have been slowly poisoning the Valley. “You’re going to see the next level of Terry Silver,” star Thomas Ian Griffith previously revealed. “It is like what the creators say, “What if Terry had won the All-Valley Karate Tournament in 1989?” So we’ll explore that — and it is fascinating.”

If that were not already enough to have you karate-chopping the air with anticipation, Cobra Kai Season 5 will even bring back The Karate Kid Part II’s Chozen Toguchi, played once again by Yuji Okumoto, who, quite frankly, gets some of the best moments in the trailer and no doubt the series. Cobra Kai co-creator Hayden Schlossberg has teased the effect that Chozen will have on the series saying, “The possibilities now are endless. Obviously, things could get really heightened because you know that Chozen is the type of guy who, at least in Karate Kid II, was willing to fight to the death. And we know that Terry Silver is willing to go to crazy lengths to stay in power, especially after what he did to Stingray in season four. So it has the makings for a big action-packed season.”

If Terry Silver is fire and Chozen is gasoline, then Cobra Kai Season 5 will be raging. And that’s without even mentioning a possible cameo from Hilary Swank.

As revealed in the trailer, Cobra Kai Season 5 will premiere on September 9 only on Netflix. And it cannot get here quickly enough.
