It shouldn't be a terribly long wait before we get to Cobra Kai season 5 after binging every episode of season 4. At the end of the year, Netflix will release the fourth season of the Karate Kid sequel series. This gives us two seasons in one year to enjoy on the streamer, as season 3 premiered on the first of the year.

Big fans will binge those new episodes as soon as they're released, and we'll be hearing people asking for season 5 by January 1st. The good news is that the season is in the can, and all it's going to take is some post-production to get season 5 on Netflix. This news comes straight from Cobra Kai producer and co-creator Jon Hurwitz, who revealed that season 5 is finished with a post on Twitter.

"Prepare yourselves, because season 4 is our biggest one yet," Hurwitz and fellow series creators, writers, and executive producers Josh Heald and Hayden Schlossberg previously told People about the new season. "With new alliances, new students, new conflicts and the return of a legendary franchise character, it's anyone's game. Strap in for a wild ride on the way to the 51st Annual All Valley Tournament!"

Season 4 also focuses on the return of Terry Silver from The Karate Kid Part III. The show's creators teased his arrival by stating, "Since the beginning of the series, we've been carefully orchestrating the right moment to unleash Cobra Kai dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe. That moment is now. We can't wait for the whole world to experience Thomas Ian Griffith's majestic return to the franchise."

So how long can this show really go? At this time, five seasons are guaranteed, but it's unclear if there will be a season 6. Netflix is infamous for canceling shows prematurely, and even something as big as Cobra Kai wouldn't be immune from that if the company wanted to bring it to an end. With that said, the show's immense popularity will help its odds of getting renewed as long as fans are satisfied with the seasons that are to come. Back in September, Hurwitz also teased that the creators' plans are to keep the series going "beyond season 5."

"We are very deep into our season 5 planning," Hurwitz said on Twitter. "Several scripts and outlines have been written. And we are definitely writing towards an endgame, which will hopefully be beyond season 5."

Cobra Kai serves as a continuation series of The Karate Kid and its sequels. It flips the narrative by reintroducing original antagonist Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) into more of the protagonist role. Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) also returns to rekindle his old feud with Johnny. We've seen plenty of franchise characters appearing in prior seasons, and though Terry Silver has been announced for the fourth season, there could be other surprises coming as well.

Season 4 of Cobra Kai starts streaming on Netflix on Dec. 31, 2021. You can watch the first three seasons now on Netflix.
