Cocaine Bear looks to be one of the most exciting films in recent memory, to say the least. The project, helmed by Elizabeth Banks, shows what would happen if an American black bear accidentally ingested a ton of cocaine and went on a violence-filled rampage. The title essentially speaks for itself, though the film will still attempt a "character-driven" story.

The official synopsis for Cocaine Bear reads: "Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild thriller finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood." The full movie is sure to be as preposterous as it is enjoyable when it hits theaters. The brand-new official trailer from Universal Pictures can be found below.

Cocaine Bear is based on a true story with a similar premise, though the actual events aren't quite as exciting as what we've seen from the movie. In December 1985, Andrew C. Thornton II, a former narcotics offer and drug smuggler, dropped a bag of cocaine from his airplane, following the load as he jumped with a parachute. Unfortunately for Thornton, his parachute refused to open on the way down, resulting in his death and 40 plastic containers of cocaine left in the Kentucky forest. Eventually, a 175-pound American black bear found its way to the cocaine, ingesting whatever it could. Unfortunately for the bear, it didn't survive the party, and it's currently on display at the Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall in Lexington.

Of course, the plot sounds like it could be a great movie, and sure enough, it's nearly ready for release. Cocaine Bear roars into theaters next year, premiering on February 24, 2023.

Universal Pictures

Ray Liotta was a Hollywood legend before tragically passing away earlier this year. The actor is known for his work on countless projects, including his most iconic part as Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas. The actor starred alongside Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in the project, with the movie receiving six Academy Award nominations and one win in 1991. Liotta appeared in Black Bird earlier this year, though Cocaine Bear will serve as his final feature film appearance.

Cocaine Bear features plenty of talent alongside Liotta, with Keri Russell taking the starring role. Russell has long been a prominent force in Hollywood, appearing in films such as Waitress, Mission: Impossible III, and most recently, Antlers. She's joined by Alden Ehrenreich, known for Hail, Caesar!, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Elizabeth Banks is directing, with famous roles in The Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect franchises, before she turned to filmmaking with Pitch Perfect 2 and Charlie's Angels. Fans can see how Cocaine Bear fares at the theaters early next year on Feb. 24.
