Deadline reports that Colin Firth (The King's Speech) is in negotiations to star in the upcoming Gambit remake.

Firth will play a cat burglar who is trying to steal a millionaire's statue. He brings on a waitress, who bears a striking resemblance to the millionaire's dead wife, to help pull off the caper.

Joel Coen and Ethan Coen wrote the script for this remake, although Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) is directing. We reported back in April that Doug Liman was in talks to direct, although that deal fell through. The original Gambit debuted in 1966 and starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine.

The producers hope to start shooting Gambit before next summer, with filming to take place in Texas and London.
