Columbia Pictures has bought the rights to the comedy, Walk Hard.
The pitch was brought to them by Judd Apatow and Jake Kasdan, who will also write the script; Kasdan will direct the film. The pair is close to getting John C. Reilly to star. Variety reports the story is about fictional music legend Dewey Cox, whose life becomes as messy; the protagonists in Ray and Walk the Line inspired the comedy.
Reilly, who has sung and played harmonica in blues bands, last sang onscreen in Chicago. Production on Walk Hard begins early next year.
