Science Fiction: According to Variety, Columbia Pictures has picked up remake rights to Dutch family pic Science Fiction for producer Lauren Shuler Donner.The original 2002 movie, directed by Danny Deprez, is the story of a boy who arrives in a new neighborhood and makes friends with the local kids by convincing them that his odd parents are actually aliens.

Kevin and Dan Hageman, whose credits include the upcoming Charlie Dills for Steven Spielberg and The Wizard of Oz Project for Jerry Bruckheimer, have been hired to write the Hollywood version.

"We chose the Hageman brothers because they were very enthusiastic about the original film and they very much wanted to keep its storyline and atmosphere intact," said Shuler Donner. "The Hageman brothers feel very close to the quirky world of 'Science Fiction.'"

Original Science Fiction, released theatrically in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
