There was something of a muted reaction to the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law reveal of Skaar, aka the son of the Incredible Hulk. This was for a couple of reasons. First, the reveal in the season finale was kind of thrown in with no preamble or follow-up, with the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) having zoomed off in a spaceship in the second episode only to drop in with his offspring for a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance. The second was that the design of Skaar suggested to many comic book aficionados that a big part of his comic introduction would be missed, with the character appearing quite timid and certainly not wanting to kill his father. However, a new piece of concept art that was produced for the show could have resolved at least one of these issues.

She-Hulk managed to divide fans right up to its final moments, as even when the story seemed to be over, there was one more introduction to have some fans tearing out their hair at another non-comic accurate character design. As has become normal for every Marvel release, there are certain fans who expect nothing less than the comic books to be transcribed to screen without any alterations, and in the case of Skaar, they almost got something closer to what they wanted. Artist Constantine Sekeris shared his concept for Skaar on his Instagram account, commenting:

“Posting todays very early design of Skaar for She-hulk don for [Marvel] Vis Dev lead by Jackson Sze. Being a huge fan of hulk and Skaar I started with the comic reference first as I normally do before exploring other options. here u can see it [was] very close, almost one to one. As a concept artist when [you are] hired you are asked to help design and visualize the studio’s and director’s vision and we provide many options pending on what is written and discussed and a character can be changed in the middle of concepting [due] to script changes.”

Where Will Skaar Appear Next In the MCU?

Very much like his father, Skaar’s purpose and next appearance in the MCU is unknown. The Hulk has been mostly restricted to appearing in other characters’ projects, or as part of the Avengers ensemble, due to rights issues. However, there have been numerous reports in the last year that have suggested that is all close to changing, and Marvel Studios will soon be reclaiming the right to make a solo Hulk project. Many fans have hoped that this will lead to a World War Hulk storyline, and in Marvel’s current position, it would seem a big miss for them not to adapt what is considered by many to be one of the best arcs in their long history.

Wil Deusner plays Skaar in his She-Hulk appearance, and although he was not on screen for long, he had to complete some lengthy motion capture work for his short scene. While he did not comment on when he may make his next appearance, Deusner previously said:

"I didn't get to take a lot of pictures on the set of She-Hulk but it was a wild new experience! I had to act with dots all over my face in these itchy gray pajamas, i wore this vest with all the mocap equipment in it, and everyone had to act to a golf ball attached above my head, so that was weird. luckily one of the producers drew a nice lil face on it. if i remember correctly, we named him Paul.”
