With his affinity for brutal aggression, this Marvel antihero was a good fit for any era of Hollywood action. But it was Jon Bernthal’s take on the character that truly brought the character home. The MCU adaptation brought a rounded take on the Punisher that was much more in touch with his comic-book origins. Simmons brought forth a matchless energy that immediately endeared him to viewers. Not only was he a spitting image of the comic book character, but he also matched Jonah Jameson’s traits at every step. Under his portrayal, the character was loud, obnoxious, and ever-irate in a goofy way. The performance was so liked by fans that Simmons found his way back to the character even in the MCU.

The Weinstein Company

Sin City is a comic book movie like no other, with a unique visual aesthetic that seemingly allowed real-life actors to merge into the comic book art style. The neo-noir anthology film boasted many talented actors in its cast, but none fit the bill more Mickey Rourke as the hulking vigilante, Marv. The character’s physical traits in the comics are night-inhuman, as he is portrayed as a seven-foot-tall individual with a battle-scarred face. But Rourke pulled off the job just the same. With a bit of nifty prosthetic work and some fantastic acting, he became virtually indistinguishable from his comic-book counterpart.

Tom Holland ended up becoming a perfect choice for the web-slinging hero in more ways than one. However, Holland nailed the character as an average high-schooler, which is an integral part of the character in the comic books.

6 Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach

Watchmen

Watchmen may be considered one of the finest achievements in the comic book movie genre. Zack Snyder did the impossible when he adapted one of the most iconic and subversive graphic novels of all time. The movie perfectly replicated the dismal tone of the original story and stayed true to its themes. There was a religious adherence to its characters. And among the entire cast, Jackie Earle Haley’s Rorschach stood out brilliantly. To be fair, every character in the movie reflects a crucial aspect of Watchmen’s hopeless, cynical reality. But Rorschach was the stand-in for its dark underbelly, its inherent savagery. And Jackie Earle Haley, with his scruffy demeanor and gravelly voice brought that out to the tee.

Deadpool was full of R-rated gore, profanity, and topped off with the signature charisma of the funniest comic book antihero ever, all brought to life by Reynolds.

To this day, Reeve’s portrayal of Superman is considered to be the definite one. In the comic books, he was the equivalent of goodness and optimism within the DC pantheon. It was this quality that Reeve brought to his performance that truly stuck with audiences. That, and the fact that his classical physique appeared to be molded for that very role.

2 Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
