The first day of Comic-Con was full of unannounced surprises, the biggest one of which was the appearance by Hugh Jackman, fresh off a flight from Australia, where he had just finished principal photography on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After appearing to a racous ovation, he personally thanked the Wolverine character creator Len Wein as he leapt off the stage to shake his hand.

"I waited a long time to thank you personally and I wanted to shake your hand, mate," Jackman said to Wein. "It's one of the best comic book characters ever created and as an actor, it's a challenge to play and I've just done it for the fourth time, and I still feel there's more to find out and that's down to you, from your great mind and heart creating a great character."

However, Jackman wasn't there for handshakes and he certainly didn't come empty-handed. He brought with him some brand new, never-before-seen footage from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Of course, we couldn't record any of the footage, but here's a brief description of what was shown.

The footage started off with Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Victor Creed (Liev Schrieber) in a holding cell being questioned by a younger William Stryker (Danny Huston). Stryker proclaims, "You were sentenced to death for decapitating a senior officer. Your sentence was to be carried out by a firing squad at 1000 hours. How'd that go?" Jackman's playful reply: "It tickled." We then see Logan and Creed somehow managing to escape a firing squad while they were firing.

Stryker continues, clearly recruiting them for the Weapon X program, calling it a "special team with special privileges." We are shown brief glimpses of this "team" which includes Gambit (Taylor Kitsch), Silverfox (Lynn Taylor), The Blob (Kevin Durand) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds).

There are also shots with both Logan and Creed mulling over Stryker's offer, with Logan leaning away from the idea and Creed towards it, with Creed offering, "We didn't sign up for this. Who do you think you are? This is what we do! Become the animal."

The footage is capped off with brief bits of several fight scenes between Logan and several of the characters, including The Blob and Sabretooth and the reel ends with Jackman hanging from an helicopter by his adamantium claws as the footage faded out.

I wish we could bring you this footage, because you really have to see this for yourself. We'll keep you posted on when this or any other X-Men Origins: Wolverine becomes available.
