Fans were expecting director Peter Jackson to announce a third The Hobbit film during Saturday's planned The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey panel. A Studio spokesperson has come forward to preemptively strike down those hopes and dreams.

This is what was said.

"[There are] no planned or surprise announcements. The plan was always for two."

The rumor started to spread about a third film due to the fact that Peter Jackson has shot way more footage than he can use in two movies. It is a very feasible idea, and Warner Bros. would be able to recoup more of the production cost.

Alas, unless that studio spokeperson is lying to keep the announcement a surprise, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again are the only two Hobbit movies we're going to be seeing in the near future.
