ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. descended upon the Ballroom 20 crowd at San Diego Comic-Con earlier today to discuss Season 2. While no footage was shown, since production is just getting under way, the series presented a special video featuring Patton Oswalt as Eric (and Billy) Koenig, who reveals that Marvel Comics character Barbara Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird, will be joining the team this season. Take a look at the video below, then read on for more information regarding Blackbird.
Barbara Morse was created in 1971 by Gerry Conway and Barry Smith, who was injected with an experimental serum that gave her superhuman strength and speed. In the comics, she was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who also joined the Avengers at one point, and was romantically involved with Hawkeye, who is played by Jeremy Renner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We reported last week that Lucy Lawless joined the cast for this new season, although her character was not revealed at that time. Today it was confirmed that the actress is portraying Isabelle Hartley, a longtime S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran who is deadly with a knife. This character appears to be created specifically for the series, since Isabelle Hartley is not a character listed in the Marvel catalog.
Nick Blood has also signed on to play Lance Hunter, a S.H.I.E.L.D. ally who was the director of S.T.R.I.K.E. The series has also brought on Reed Diamond as the season's primary villain, Daniel Whitehall, a Hydra agent known as Kraken. It isn't known how this character will fit into the Season 2 story, or if the role has been cast yet. Stay tuned for more updates as we inch closer and closer to the show's return.
