IDW Publishing, the current home of Star Trek Universe comic books, announced the return of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Commander Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek #1. Arriving in October 2022, from critically acclaimed artist Ramon Rosanas (Marvel's Star Wars and Ant-Man) and writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing (Star Trek: Year Five and Marvel's Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty), the new flagship title will draw together characters from different eras of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek Universe and unit them in a single mission to prevent the murder of the gods. (Trekkies, the series takes place three years after the DS9 episode "What You Leave Behind" and one year before Star Trek: Nemesis.)

Sharing in the joy of Trekkies about the return of Commander Sisko is Lanzing, who said in the press release:

Benjamin Sisko is back! We’re immeasurably thrilled to launch a new starship with a crew of new and familiar faces heading on a mission that will truly go where no one has gone before—an Avengers-style ongoing crossover that treats Gene Roddenberry’s creation as a living universe. This is a book where anyone can show up and where anything is possible.

Although arguably Star Trek did the multiverse thing before the MCU (so it's not really an "Avengers-style crossover"), Trekkies have been waiting decades for their favorite franchise characters to Starfleet together for decades. And as much fun as the Mirror Universe, fluff fiction, and slash fiction can be, it's not always canon (you'd be surprised what is).

The first issue of Star Trek #1 will have eight variant covers from the following creators (so far) Rosanas, Declan Shalvey, David Aja, and Rachael Stott. There will also be three retailer incentive covers by Rosanas and Franco Francavilla.
