You know it's a slow news day when the biggest TV story is that Peter McNichol is moving from Numb3rs to 24 next season. Apparently the man has a thing for shows with numbers in the title.
It can be a challenge to find TV happenings to talk about during the summer months. Strange as it may seem, but it used to be even harder. Now at least the networks have gotten wise that reruns have limited appeal for some shows, and instead treat us to several hundred hours of reality programming and the ocassional burn off of a cancelled show. In the "old days" (read: pre-Who Wants to Be a Millionaire), a viewer was desperate to watch paint dry rather than another rerun of Full House.
I'm watching Hell's Kitchen these days. I got hooked in last summer, and I enjoyed watching Chef Ramsey turn purple from all the yelling. This year he's added some new insults to his vocabulary, like calling people some iteration of "donkey". I love this new insult so much, I introduced it into my own insults, which may be why my sister hit me in the arm when I refered to her as a "fat donkey." Take note, even when said affectionately, insults learned from TV can be hazardous to your health.
Hey, more casting news! Sally Field is joining the cast of Brothers and Sisters on ABC. I didn't think flying nuns could have children, but it turns out Ms. Field was never actually a nun, nor did she fly. I'm telling ya, you can't believe everything you see on TV these days!
Have you seen Disney Channel's hit TV movie, High School Musical? Probably not, if you are over the age of fifteen, but it is HUGE. Every time it airs, 8-14 year old girls are hypnotized by it. Now it is taking over the world. This is why America is top of class in exporting our culture. We want tweener girls all over the world to sing "Start of Something New" in adolescent harmony.
Pee-Wee's back! Cartoon Network is showing all of the episodes of Pee-Wee's Playhouse. I was a big fan of Terry the pteradactyl.
So, lame news day. Tomorrow I'll be posting reviews of a couple of new shows on cable, and we'll talk about great cliffhanger episodes.
What shows are you watching this summer? What are some of your favorite cliffhanger season-ending episodes? Talk about these and other topics in the Movieweb Forum!
