Constantine star Peter Stormare has some intriguing ideas surrounding his role in the now confirmed sequel, with the actor hoping to play both Satan and God in Constantine 2. Discussing the sequel with ScreenRant, Stormare expressed some concerns over making Constantine 2 all these years later, but hopes that it will happen, and that he gets to play both God and the Devil opposite Keanu Reeves as the titular paranormal detective.

“It's hard to read sequels, and threequels, and fourquels. But, you know, hopefully it will be made, and hopefully I'm God at that time, looking exactly the same, but with a black suit.”

Released back in 2005, and based on the DC comic Hellblazer, the first Constantine stars Keanu Reeves as an ordinary man with an extraordinary gift. Unknown to most people, the world is crowded with spirits both good and evil who walk among us in human guise. One of the few who can see these spirits is John Constantine, but the responsibility of his vision is more than he can stand, and, as a teenager, he attempts to take his own life. Saved from death, Constantine must now atone for his actions by acting as a guardian in the middle ground between Paradise and Hell and becoming a detective of the occult and the paranormal.

Stormare steals the show in the first Constantine outing, entering the scene as Lucifer Morningstar aka Satan, who is eager to drag Constantine’s soul off to Hell. Appearing during the finale, Stormare’s Satan sports a crisp, white suit and leaves footprints of black sludge behind him. Finding the perfect balance between being endearingly eccentric and utterly terrifying, Stormare’s performance is not only one of the highlights of the movie, but stands out as one of cinema's best depictions of the Devil.

Thus, the idea of Stormare portraying both Satan and God is a brilliant one, with the actor already suggesting the perfect outfit for the latter: a black suit. Perhaps leaving footprints of a bright, white light behind him as he walks. Development on Constantine 2 is currently in the very early stages, but would you like to see Peter Stormare return as both the Prince of Darkness and the King of Kings.

Peter Stormare has been one of the most vocal Constantine cast members calling for a sequel, but he does have some concerns. Now that the DC sequel is a go, Stormare is worried that they have waited too long to bring John Constantine and his world of angels and demons back. “That's the problem of doing Constantine 2, this might be too late. It might be too late, I don't know. It's nice if Keanu can have a say and say, "I'm in or out,” he said.

The actor is also worried that, rather than make a small, relatively intimate adventure like the first movie, the studio will want to go bigger. Which does not always mean better. “But if Francis Lawrence is in as a director, and the writer writes it as the first one, with some other choices, with some new twists and tweaks, it might be good, but I think if we just do it like "boom, crash bang," it won't work,” he continued. “No one wants to see it.”

Constantine 2 does not yet have a release date but will see Keanu Reeves return as the lead, and Francis Lawrence return as director, with Akiva Goldsman writing the screenplay.
