The Long Good Friday takes a brutally realistic look at London's murky underworld, from the Eastside Docklands to the glittering, vulgar casinos of the West End. But at the same time it is a portrait of mobster Harold Shand (Bob Hoskins - Unleashed, Mrs. Henderson Presents) who is a study in contradictions - violent, feared but also self-conscious and insecure.

As Harold is about to close a major deal, a spate of bombing attacks bring negotiations to an abrupt halt. He must find out who would dare attack criminal London's most powerful man. Or has somebody already taken his place?

Helen Mirren ("Prime Suspect" series, Gosford Park) co-stars as Victoria, his mistress. Pierce Brosnan (James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing) can be seen in his first role in a feature film.

Cruel yet sympathetic, in 2005 The Long Good Friday was voted #1 top London films of all time by Time Out readers. Surprisingly compassionate towards the harsh world it portrayed, this film blazed the way for a new genre of gangland drama.
