New takes on the 80s movies The Goonies and The Lost Boys are in gestation, but don't expect one star from both of those classic films to be involved. Corey Feldman, a former child star who had a big role in each movie, recently addressed the planned reboots in a new interview on The Domenick Nati Show. The actor made it clear that he is not involved with them and figures that if these projects fail, that's just fine, as they'll be going down without him.
"I did my part. I made the movies. If they want to wreck them, they can wreck them on their own. I'm not going to be involved with that. No, I'm not a big fan of reboots. If you want to make a sequel to a movie, and it's done right, then I'm all about it, but I don't buy the reboot thing. I don't think it's cool."
While Feldman is open to some of his movies getting a sequel, such as his hope to see The Goonies 2 get made, he doesn't think Stand by Me should get a follow-up film.
"No, I don't think there will ever be a Stand by Me sequel. Who would want a Stand by Me sequel anyway? Nobody."
The reboot of The Goonies that's in the works is not exactly a straight-up remake of the original film. In development as a television series, the Goonies show will tell the story of a group of young filmmakers creating a shot-for-shot remake of the movie. Meanwhile, it was announced in 2021 that The Lost Boys is also getting remade with Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) and Jaeden Martell (It) set to play two of the lead roles. A pilot for a TV series remake of The Lost Boys had been previously shot, but The CW passed on ordering the show to series in 2019.
Corey Feldman Was Disappointed in Response to His Documentary
In 2020, Feldman released the film My Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys, detailing allegations of sexual abuse he had endured as a former child star alongside late actor Corey Haim. In the new interview, Feldman says how disappointed he was that the documentary was not taken more seriously and did not result in any criminal charges brought to the men named in the film.
"Things obviously didn't go well at all. It was not taken seriously. It didn't get the consideration it should have. There were never any investigations done. It was like a big slap in the face. So, we'll just leave it at that. It cost me a lot of money. It was very disappointing. It put my life at risk. They wouldn't let me on the press to talk about it. Yeah, let's just move on. Nothing happened. It was a big nothing-burger. Let's just leave it at that."
As of now, Feldman doesn't have any acting projects planned as he's been busy focusing on his music career. Perhaps we'll one day see him back on the screen if The Goonies 2 ever ends up happening.
