Looks like Netflix doesn’t want Zack Snyder to stop. Per the reports from The Hollywood Reporter, the director’s space epic Rebel Moon has added more actors to the roaster ensemble. Corey Stoll (The Normal Heart, Ant-Man, Midnight in Paris), Cary Elwes (Saw, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The X-Files), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones, The Haunting of Hill House, The Flight Attendant), and Alfonso Herrera (Sense8, Ozark) are the new members that have joined the already extended star cast of the film.

The cast joins Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Rupert Friend, and Stuart Martin. The film will also star Snyder’s discovery Ray Fisher, who played Victor Stone/Cyborg in Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The film features a story of a peaceful space colony, which is being threatened by an army of tyrannical warriors. When the danger sets upon them, a young woman is sent to the edges of the galaxy to recruit warriors to fight against the foes. The young woman in the said plot is presumably portrayed by Boutella, who was the first to join the film.

The film is being directed by Zack Snyder and is penned for the screen by Shay Hatten, Kurt Johnstad, and Snyder himself. Hatten is Snyder’s writing partner in the film Army of the Dead and its follow-ups in the planned franchise, whereas Johstad has written the screenplay for Snyder’s films 300 and 300: Rise of an Empire.

Snyder Has Got A Handful At Netflix

Rebel-Moon
Netflix

Rebel Moon is being fast-tracked into production and the film will soon begin filming. Rebel Moon is part of the first look deal Snyder has with the streaming platform, which began with the Dave Bautista-led Army of the Dead. After finishing work on Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Snyder practically severed ties with Warner Bros. and headed to Netflix with the idea of a zombie heist film. Army of the Dead was a hit on the platform, which was followed by a prequel, Army of Thieves. The former has now spun into a franchise that will be followed by an animated series and a planned sequel, Planet of the Dead.

Rebel Moon is an extension or a rip-off of an unproduced Zack Snyder’s film, which he intended to be a part of the Star Wars Saga before Disney acquired Lucasfilm. It was after the prequel trilogy that Snyder had planned to pitch a Star Wars movie inspired by the works of Akira Kurosawa, but that boat didn’t sail. Now, Snyder has returned to the space sci-fi genre with Rebel Moon.

Given the previous works of Snyder, which have heavily relied on VFX-based surreal storytelling. Rebel Moon will be an opera of a film. The early concept art of the film has already given 300-esque vibes, where Snyder uses the green screen to create a graphically evolved atmosphere via landscapes formed by a blend of color grading, further empowered by some extraordinary cinematography.

The cast and crew are already working up to create Snyder’s vision for the screen, and Snyder fans are excited to witness his take on the idea of intergalactic battles, space armies, and advanced space weapons. Given how the elements of films are being currently described, it seems like the film could be an off-beat answer to Star Wars from Netflix. And who knows, it could also have Snyder form another franchise of its own for the streaming platform.
