Craig Robinson quickly went from, "Hey, it's that guy from that thing", to one of the funniest comedic actors working today. He grew up on the South Side of Chicago, earning a Master of Education degree, and to this day, is a strong advocate for teachers. Robinson has been delighting us in some of our favorite movies and television for the past 15+ years. Before his breakout role on The Office, Robinson had small appearances on shows such as; Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Bernie Mac Show. This standup comedian worked his way through the Hollywood ranks to the fame and success he is known for today. Even joining the world of Marvel as a voice in the upcoming Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Six of Robinson's performances stand out as his best so far, let's take a look at them.

6 Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)

Craig Zack and Miri
The Weinstein Company

One of Robinson's first major movie roles came in Kevin Smith's 2008 comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Smith's attempt at making a more mainstream comedy akin to the Judd Apatow films or the early 2000s, tells the story of two childhood friends, Zack and Miri, attempting to make a successful pornography film to help pay their way out of overdue utilities and a subpar financial life. Robinson plays the coworker, and friend of Seth Rogen's, Zac Brown, who gets recruited to join the production team. This traditional will they/won't they love story wrapped in a raunchy package has its moments of complete outrageousness, that are complimented well by the subtle, and straight comedy delivered by Robinson. Compared to other entries to come, Robinson's performance is a subdued relief from the more over-the-top moments in the film. Not only is the film one of Robinson's best performances, but ranks as one of Kevin Smiths best films as well.

5 Eastbound & Down (2009-2012)

Craig Eastbound
Warner Bros. Television

One of Kenny Powers' most bitter enemies on the hit HBO series Eastbound & Down is that of Reggie Mackworthy, played by Craig Robinson. An old rival from their time in Major League Baseball, Mackworthy is credited with ending Kenny's career with a grand slam homerun, sending Powers into the free fall that is chronicled in the show. The two meet later in the series at an event at a BMW dealership owned by Ashley Schaeffer, played brilliantly by Will Ferrell. The two compete in a pitching contest that ends up costing Mackworthy his left eye. Before the end of the series, Powers and Mackworthy have a heart-to-heart and find their similarities are much more in line than their differences. Robinson's take on the arrogant rival to Danny McBride's "hero" allows him to provide his comedy through the lenses of the unlikeable. Despite being off the air, it is never too late to dive into this comedy classic, but you better know how to binge Eastbound & Down.

4 This is the End (2013)Craig This is the End

This is the End is one of the funniest comedies of the last decade, featuring some of the biggest names in comedy and one of Craig Robinson's best performances. Playing an ultra-heightened version of himself in the film, Robinson shows off the diva tendencies of Hollywood actors throughout this apocalyptic comedy. From his duet with Rihanna, narrowly escaping demonic monsters, and leading a heavenly dance with the Backstreet Boys, Robinson stands out in a film packed with comedy powerhouses.

3 Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

Craig Hot Tub (1)
MGM Distribution Co.

On paper, a title like Hot Tub Time Machine sounds like a movie made for home release, not one of the funniest comedies of the 2010s. The film follows four friends and a nephew on a comedy journey back to the 1980s through the power of a magical time traveling hot tub and a mysterious Chevy Chase. Put back into the bodies of their teenage selves, nephew excluded, the four friends relive the glory and not-so glory days of their '80s teenage trips to a popular ski lodge. In an effort not to disrupt the future, the four have to proceed on course with everything that happened in 1986. For Robinson's character Nick, this includes an open mic performance with his band and a sexual encounter with a groupie, which proves mentally taxing for a now married (in the future) Nick. Robinson's mix of comedy with heartfelt moments of friendship with his friends lends to a balanced comedic role, with some outrageous moments peppered in for good measure.

2 Pineapple Express (2008)Craig Pineapple

2008 was a great year for comedy films, from Step Brothers to Tropic Thunder. Perhaps the funniest movies from that year is Pineapple Express, the stoner comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. The duo is pursued after witnessing a murder committed by a local weed kingpin played by Gary Cole. Pursuing the main heroes are Kevin Corrigan and Craig Robinson's characters of, Budlofsky and Matheson, the latter a confident, dangerous, yet at times lovable idiot henchman. Robinson shows his ability to hang with comedy pros in the film, all while maintaining a realism that Matheson is the type of person that the audience has known or met in their own lives.

1 The Office (2005-2013)

Craig Office
NBCUniversal Television Distribution

What other performance would be number one? Robinson's work on The Office is the best of his career thus far, and allows the audience the biggest sample size of just how entertaining he is as a comedic actor. Starting off on the show as the responsible and more serious warehouse manager, and playing against the zaniness of Michael Scott, Robinson's character of Darryl Philbin quickly became a regular on the show, and left most, if not all, of his warehouse persona behind. Whether he was in a singing competition to win the Girl Scout cookie order of a hungry Kevin, teaching Michael Scott the latest street lingo, or dancing his way out the door for a new job, Darryl delighted fans over the nine season run on the show; a true testament to the performances given by Robinson. Who knows, maybe there will be a Darryl-esque character on the Saudi Arabian reboot.
