Jonathan Majors has a couple of big villain performances coming up, but his appearance in the upcoming Creed III is a long way from his Marvel role as Kang The Conqueror. The second sequel to the Rocky franchise spin-off is currently filming, and new images from the shoot have shown a shirtless Majors “in training” on the beach, under the direction of Michael B. Jordan, who also once again takes on the title role of Adonis Creed. Since Creed brought new life to the Rocky franchise, Stallone has decided to step away from appearing in the latest movie, which is now all resting on the shoulders of Jordan.

The new images originally featured in The Daily Mail from the movie’s recent shoot have given one of the best looks at Jonathan Majors in his currently unnamed role. While the physical scenes are a sign of what can be expected of the actor in the upcoming film, it is clear from many of the shots that the star has been doing plenty of off-camera training in order to get himself in shape for the part. While there has been no confirmation yet as to who Majors will be playing, many fans have speculated that he could be playing the son of Rocky III opponent Clubber Lang, played in that film by the inimitable Mr. T. This would certainly fit in with the overall feeling that the Creed movies are carrying the Rocky legacy into a new generation.

While the film's plot is currently being kept secret, the returning cast will include Tess Thompson as Adonis’ fiancée, but other than Stallone seeming to indicate that his time with the Rocky franchise is done, there are very few other details known about the film. Whether the movie will lead to more Creed movies is something that is perfectly possible if the film continues to be a box office success, but that is very much a question for the future.

While none of the sequels and spin-off movies have come close to matching the profitability of the original Oscar-winning Rocky, Creed and Creed II more than held their own in terms of box office success. However, at the time of release, there was no certainty of that happening. Most of the Rocky movies pulled in between $200-300 million, although the final entries in the series seemed to be seeing a dip in interest, even with the star power of Stallone.

Creed took just over $170 million on its release in 2015, with Creed II pushing that up to $214 million three years later. Even with the pandemic in between, it will only have been four years since that release when Creed III hits cinemas this November, meaning there is a good chance that the film will be able to manage a similar box office performance and potentially lead to another sequel down the line. Of course, if the movie does go well for Jordan on a directorial front and acting, then the star’s future could end up being busy enough that he may have to leave the franchise on a high to concentrate on the many other movies in his sights.

Creed III is currently scheduled to release in cinemas on Nov. 23, 2022.
