Legendary Pictures has released a new TV spot for their highly-anticipated thriller Crimson Peak, arriving in theaters October 16 from director Guillermo del Toro. This 60-second video reveals new details about Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska), who claims that ghosts are real, since she has seen them her entire life. Unfortunately for her, the new house she's currently inhabiting is filled with lost souls who have perished from incredibly violent deaths.

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author (Mia Wasikowska) is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay: a place filled with secrets that will haunt her forever, that breathes, bleeds... and remembers. Between desire and darkness, between mystery and madness, lies the truth behind Crimson Peak.

The all-star cast also includes Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Doug Jones, Burn Gorman, Jim Beaver, Javier Botet, Leslie Hope and Jim Watson. Guillermo del Toro directs this thriller from a script he co-wrote with Matthew Robbins. Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni produce alongside Callum Greene with Jillian Share.

The film is set to hit theaters October 16, going up against Bridge of Spies and Goosebumps in wide release. This haunted house thriller will also go up against indie films such as Room, Truth and Woodlawn. It's too soon to tell which of these projects will prevail during this competitive weekend, but horror projects like Crimson Peak always perform well during the month of October, as fans get ready for the Halloween season.

We reported earlier today that Guillermo del Toro's sequel Pacific Rim 2 has been delayed, just before production was set to begin this fall. The filmmaker revealed that he is turning in the script in just a few weeks, but he also said that he may make a different movie before tackling Pacific Rim 2. Perhaps the filmmaker will start crafting a sequel for Crimson Peak next, but we don't know for sure. While we wait for more details on the director's next project, check out the new Crimson Peak TV spot.
