An all-new trailer for Critters Attack! has just been revealed at San Diego Comic Con 2019, showing horror fans more of what to expect in the upcoming sequel. The movie had a joint panel with another anticipated horror, The Banana Splits, which also debuted a new trailer. Along with star Dee Wallace, the panel featured co-star Tashiana Washington, director Bobby Miller, puppeteer Keith Arbuthnot, Critters voiceover artist Steve Blum, and Blue Ribbons' Peter Girardi. On the Banana Splits side, those from the movie present were writers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, star Sara Canning, and the voice of the Banana Splits, Eric Bauza.

The Critters franchise first landed on Earth in 1986 with the release of the original movie by director Stephen Herek. It tells the story of a race of furry, carnivorous aliens invading a small country town to feast upon its unsuspecting residents. Scream queen Dee Wallace starred as the Brown family matriarch Helen, appearing alongside such names as Billy Zane and Lin Shaye. Critters developed a cult following, bringing about four sequels in the coming years which would wind up taking the story into outer space. The franchise has since been making a resurgence, as the TV series Critters: A New Binge premiered on the streaming service Shudder earlier this year.

Critters Attack! will officially serve as the fifth installment of the movie series. It will feature the return of Wallace to the franchise, now playing a mysterious character known as Aunt Dee. Tashiana Washington (Gimme the Loot) also stars as a babysitter tasked with keeping the children she's watching safe when the hungry Krites land in a nearby forest. As it's implied Aunt Dee has some kind of history with the furry extra-terrestrials, does this mean this is her same character, Helen Brown, fighting the Krites once again using an alias? In any case, it's nice to see the franchise going back to its roots, presenting a new story more akin to the original movie as it was presented at Comic-Con

As for The Banana Splits Movie, the new horror is based on the Hanna-Barbera TV series from the 1960s. It follows a young boy and his family attending a taping of the Banana Splits show at the TV studio, where they discover that the program is getting canceled. This leads to the characters from the series, who are actually robots, going on a murderous rampage, killing those unlucky enough to be inside the studio. It's about as far removed from its source material as you can get, and probably not something William Hanna and Joseph Barbera had ever envisioned. Because it comes with a hard R-rating, it's needless to say this version of the Banana Splits won't be for kids.

Horror fans can check out Critters Attack! when it lands on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, and Digital outlets on July 23. The Banana Splits Movie will follow on Blu-ray and DVD on Aug. 27. If you're looking for more horror comedy in your life, you'll definitely want to check both of these titles out.
