The Weinstein Company is mounting a sequel to the 2000 blockbuster Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, with production tentatively scheduled to begin in May. Ronny Yu is in talks to direct from a screenplay provided by John Fusco. Here's what the writer had to say about the project, based on the popular Chinese fiction series Wu Sia.

"This was an opportunity to explore a lifelong passion I've had for Wu Sia, and if there wasn't continuing source material, I would never have gotten involved."

It isn't immediately clear which Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon stars, if any, will reprise their roles for this follow-up. Director Ang Lee will not be a part of the project. The script is based on Silver Vase, Iron Knight, the fifth book in the Crane-Iron Pentalogy by Wang Du Lu. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was based on the fourth book in that series. Silver Vase, Iron Knight follows the Yu Shu Lien character portrayed by Michelle Yeoh in the original.

Harvey Weinstein is producing, with casting to begin in the near future.
