It takes very little to spark rumors around the Star Wars franchise, and Daisy Ridley did just that when she shared an image of Lucasfilm’s headquarters on her Instagram account. However, the mysterious post, which included Yoda’s statue in the shot and did not come with any explanation, was instantly jumped on as a possible tease of her impending Star Wars return as Rey Skywalker. However, the actress has since set the record straight on the matter. She was simply there for lunch.

Daisy Ridley led the Star Wars sequels as Rey, and after the end of The Rise of Skywalker, it seemed like her character still had a significant role to play in the future of the franchise. But, of course, much of Star Wars’ recent content has been focused on Disney+ series releases, all of which have been set before Ridley’s character was part of the franchise. That doesn’t mean that she will not return at some point in the future though.

After fans bombarded the actress with questions about her reason for being in Lucasfilm HQ, the actress simply said that the lunch visit had nothing to do with getting back in the Star Wars saddle…or, as she put it, there is “nothing saucy happening.” Her clarifying post came with a collective photo of the star with some of her Star Wars co-stars and J.J. Abrams, among others, which she noted was coming three years on from The Rise of Skywalker’s 2019 release.

Will Rey Return in Star Wars’ Next Movie Releases?

With the popularity of Rey’s character being one of the few constants across the three sequel movies, it would be misguided for Lucasfilm not to consider her inclusion in whatever their next movie venture turns out to be. So far, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has been vocal about wanting to bring Star Wars back into theaters after their recent output has all been focused on Disney+ shows.

There are currently several projects up in the air, some closer to fruition than others. A Star Wars project from J.D. Dillard was recently announced to have been abandoned by the director. Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron was originally the front-runner to bring Star Wars to the big screen, but that has seemingly been pushed so far onto the back burner that it may as well not be there. In its place, Rian Johnson, who is currently flexing his directorial skills on his Knives Out sequel Glass Onion, still wants to do his own trilogy – despite The Last Jedi becoming one of the most divisive Star Wars movies ever.

However, Glass Onion 3 seems to be Johnson’s main priority, with possible sequels to come, and that then puts the emphasis on Thor: Love and Thunder helmer Taika Waititi. The director recently addressed his potential Star Wars offering still being something he was working out the story for, meaning there is a lot of blank space currently where a healthy slate of movies should be.

In the meantime, Disney+ is continuing to keep the galaxy far, far away ticking over, with season three of The Mandalorian now having a March 2023 release date and other projects such as The Acolyte, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew all coming soon.
