We have an exclusive clip from Saban's forthcoming Danger Close. The movie stars Travis Fimmel and Luke Bracey. Directed by Kriv Stenders, the movie is the first Australian project to take on the Vietnam War in 40 years, following 1979's The Odd Angry Shot. The movie hits select theaters this week and will also be On Demand. From the looks of things, Stenders let the acting take over the movie and kept the CGI to a minimum, giving it a bare bones and realistic feel.

In Danger Close, Major Harry Smith (Travis Fimmel) and his company of 108 young and inexperienced Australian and New Zealand soldiers are fighting for their lives in the 1966 Battle of Long Tan. With 2,500 battle-hardened Viet Cong soldiers closing in, their ammunition running out and casualties mounting, each man searches for the strength to triumph over an uncertain future with honor, decency and courage. The clip shows just how intense the battle was and how quickly things can go wrong.

Development on Danger Close goes back to 2008, but a script was not complete until 2014. Casting started in early 2018, which is also when the production kicked off, starting in May and going through July 2018 at the Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland and locations around Pimpama, Kingaroy, and Nerang. Star Luke Bracey had this to say when asked why it took so long to get the project off the ground.

"I don't know, that's a question for the producers of the world! When it came across my desk and I read it - it's just captivating, you know? It's a story that had to be told and it hadn't been told. It's just a shame that it's taken this long to make a film about the Australian experience in Vietnam."

In addition to the actors in the movie, Danger Close employed over 100 Australians with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan as extras for authenticity. Part of trying to get to technical details right involved a boot camp-like experience on the Gold Coast to learn what it was like to be in the Australian military in the late 1960s. "That kind of preparation was pretty crucial in just trying to get your head around just what we were about to do," Luke Bracey recalls. However, it wasn't as intense as a normal boot camp experience. "It's not like we were getting water thrown on us at 5 a.m. or running up and down hills, but just starting that process."

Saban Films will release Danger Close in Theaters, on Digital and On Demand on November 8th, 2019. Written by Stuart Beattie (G.I.
