The upcoming film Rich Flu has gotten some solid names to join its cast. With plans to start shooting the film this fall, it's been reported by THR out of Cannes that Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone, American Horror Story) and Daniel Brühl (The King's Man, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) have boarded the project. They join Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, The Wheel of Time) who's the star of the thriller.

Set to start filming this fall, Rich Flu is "set in a world where a strange disease begins killing off the super-rich. First it hits the billionaires, then the multimillionaires and so on, triggering a massive sell-off of assets as the wealthy try to escape the deadly virus."

The film will be directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia using a screenplay co-written with Pedro Rivero and David Desola with revisions by Sam Steiner. Pablo Larraín and Juan de Dios Larraín are producing via Fabula alongside Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls of Nostromo Pictures, as well as Gaztelu-Urrutia, Carlos Juárez, and Albert Soler.

Macaulay Culkin, now 41 years old, is of course very well known as a former child star who appeared in several popular films from the 1990s, from Home Alone to My Girl and The Pagemaster. He has been acting in recent years, which includes roles in the 2019 comedy Changeland and the FX horror series American Horror Story: Double Feature in 2021. More recently, he appeared on the second season of the HBO series The Righteous Gemstones.

Daniel Brühl will be recognized by Marvel fans for his role as Helmut Zero in the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a part he reprised after first debuting the character in Captain America: Civil War. He is also known for his Golden Globe-nominated role in the series The Alienist and has had notable roles in films like The Bourne Ultimatum, Inglorious Basterds, and Rush. More recently, he has appeared in the films The Zookeeper's Wife, The Cloverfield Paradox, and The King's Man. The actor will also star in the upcoming films All Quiet on the Western Front and 2 Win.

"Whilst I was shooting Angel of Darkness, I got the news that they wanted me to come back to shoot The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," Brühl said of his MCU return, which happened last year after a five-year absence. "I remember that Kari Skogland, the director, came to Budapest, and we recorded something with me being Zemo, and I was very happy and enthusiastic to see the mask."

He added, "I was incredibly thrilled to go back because I remember that I had a lot of fun being in something completely different and getting to explore the MCU and become part of that. I have the fondest memories of collaborating with all of these wonderful actors, and to see Sebastian Stan again, and Anthony Mackie this time around, and to come back to something which, on the one hand, felt common and known, and on the other hand, being something completely new and something fresh."

Rich Flu doesn't yet have a release date.
