Daredevil's future has never been brighter inside the MCU. While the popular Netflix series was unfortunately canceled back in 2018, Matt Murdock made his live-action return in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home after Marvel reacquired the rights. After the Man Without Fear's appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, fans can look forward to his next confirmed appearances in Echo and his highly anticipated series Daredevil: Born Again. With the series recently undergoing a creative overhaul, many have questions about what the MCU will do with the show.

While Daredevil: Born Again takes its name from the iconic comic written by the legendary Frank Miller, known for popular works such as 300, Sin City, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, it doesn't seem like the series will take inspiration from that comic. The title is in more reference to the idea that Marvel has revived Daredevil, and he is "Born Again" in the MCU. The Netflix show adapted that dark time in Matt Murdock's life in season 3, and the MCU series seems to be going in a much more lighthearted direction. Now that Daredevil is being slowly integrated into the larger MCU, fans of the Netflix show have many questions about the series coming to Disney+. So let’s get some answers!

Will the Series Be Tied to the Netflix Original?

It looks like Marvel’s strategy when it comes to tying in old shows and movies is to acknowledge that the events happened but retcon them somehow. For example, in Spider-Man: No Way Home we saw the two other Spider-Men from previous movies, and we were told that they were all truly Spider-Man just from a different universe. In episode 2 of She-Hulk, Bruce Banner told us he “was a different person back then, literally!” when he was talking about the 2008 Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton.

Marvel’s Phase 5 will bring changes set to alter future films in the Multiverse Saga.

So, it seems like the MCU is choosing to tie in pre-Disney events with a few different strategies. What this will mean for Daredevil, we aren’t sure yet. But the start of the Born Again timeline can be easily adapted to happen a long time after previous events in Matt Murdock’s life. We will continually get more information on Daredevil as he is slowly revealed through cameos in the MCU. It's a safe bet to assume that Marvel is planning on a soft reboot for Daredevil, meaning that everything in the Netflix series is canon until otherwise contradicted in the new show.

Is Nelson, Murdock and Page Still in Business?

Daredevil
Netflix

Matt Murdock got his start in the MCU giving legal advice to Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home and followed that up in a legal battle with Jennifer Walters in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. While Matt confirmed he was taking on work in Los Angeles with his client Luke to help pay the bills, he also specified that he still did pro bono work in Hell's Kitchen with an unnamed legal partner.

We can't be sure whether this means that Murdock lost his law firm or he’s being contracted. But many fans are worried about the heart of the team, Foggy Nelson. Fans do hope that Elden Henson will return as Foggy Nelson. But at the moment, there has been no confirmation of his status. Potential spoilers ahead, but a recent rumor from insider CanWeGetSomeToast on Twitter/X stated that Foggy was going to appear in the first episode of the series, but ended up being shot in a hit organized by Fisk. He instead was part of a new firm with Kirsten Mcduffie. With the series undergoing a creative reboot, there's no saying what will and won't be kept. Marvel Studios has yet to confirm Elden's return in the series and we likely won't know until the series airs in a few years.

As for Karen Page, unfortunately, it's been radio silence on her. Deborah Ann Woll has not been announced or rumored to make an appearance in the series. They weren't recasting or killing off her character, rather that she just wasn't playing a role in the series for some undisclosed reason. With the show being reworked it's very possible they're putting her into the show, but for now, it doesn't seem like she'll play a role.

What is Kingpin's Agenda?

Kingpin is playing an essential role in Daredevil: Born Again that will shape the entirety of street-level MCU going forward. His obsession with Daredevil comes to a head as he gets closer than ever to finally defeating his long-time rival. A Born Again story without Wilson Fisk just wouldn’t be that story. As many people know, Vincent D’Onofrio is already back in action as Kingpin in the MCU and confirmed to appear in Daredevil's solo outing. Before then, he's scheduled to appear in the spin-off Echo as well. Many people agree that he is perfect for the role as he continues to prove himself a powerful villain in the MCU.

In the new series, Kingpin is back and holds more power than ever, as he will be running for New York City mayor. With his past as the most notorious crime lord in the Marvel universe, it's gonna take a lot of work to convince the public to put him in office. It seems that the series may be taking inspiration from the recent Devil's Reign comic event where Fisk ran on a platform of removing superheroes from NYC, and that may be the angle he's taking here. With many heroes like Daredevil, Spider-Man, Echo, and the Punisher operating in the city, if he were to be put in office it would have drastic ramifications for those heroes and potentially set him up as a villain in an upcoming Spider-Man movie.

What is the Punisher's Role?

Ever since it was announced that Jon Bernthal would be reprising his role as the Punisher, fans have been wondering what his role in the series will be. Bernthal made his debut as the character in season two of Daredevil where he played a pivotal role in discussing the morals of being a vigilante. While most of the series saw him butting heads with the Man Without Fear, he ended up helping Daredevil in his war against the Hand. That was the last the two interacted before Bernthal starred in his own spinoff series, The Punisher.

At the end of his own series, Frank finally embraced becoming the Punisher and embarked on his crusade against crime. He hasn't made any appearances in the MCU up to this point, so there's a world of possibilities as to how he and Daredevil cross paths this time around. It's exciting to see the return of another beloved Marvel Netflix character, and fans can't wait to see what happens. One guarantee is that Frank will be up to his usual habits of killing criminals to clean the streets at any cost.

Is She-Hulk Going to Make an Appearance?

After Daredevil's return in She-Hulk, his status quo has shifted. The ending of the season seemed to indicate that Matt and Jen were in some kind of relationship, with Matt even getting to meet Jen's parents already. The two have very quickly created a strong bond with Matt even giving Jen the inspiration to become a superhero. It would make sense for Jen to make an appearance in Daredevil's show now to continue that dynamic.

How She-Hulk: Attorney at Law May Have Setup World War Hulk
There is good reason to believe Hulk's spaceship departure in episode 2 of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is leading to World War Hulk.

Charlie Cox himself has expressed interest in Tatiana Maslany returning as She-Hulk, saying in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter "I really hope that it happens. I had such fun working with [Tatiana]. I happen to think she’s one of the great actors of our generation. So that, in and of itself, as well as being a lovely person, it was just such a thrill and a joy to work with her. So I would absolutely love that, but who knows? We’ll have to see." Daredevil: Born Again has the most episodes out of any other MCU show with 18, so there are ample amounts of time to dedicate one of those to a team-up with She-Hulk. Instead of going against each other in court, perhaps they need to team up this time. Maybe Matt calls in a favor from Jen to help fight the new stronger version of Kingpin. Whatever may happen, fans are excited about the possibility of seeing these two together on screen again.

How was Daredevil Affected by the Blip?

Thanos about to snap his fingers with the infinity gauntlet as Thor looks in desperation in Avengers: Infinity War.
Marvel Studios

The most important moment in the MCU is without a doubt when Thanos snapped his fingers and wiped trillions from existence. Everyone across the universe's lives were changed in that single moment. It took five years for the Avengers to even regroup enough to bring people back, but they still weren't able to completely undo the drastic ramifications that the Blip had on the universe. While the Netflix Daredevil series was made with the intention of being MCU canon, it never got to explore the ramifications of the Blip. The next time Daredevil made an appearance, the MCU had moved beyond that moment and never got a chance to answer how it impacted him.

It must have been hard for someone with enhanced sense to hear all those heartbeats stop at once. In Daredevil: Born Again, there's an opportunity to touch on that and show just how badly it hit him. Was Matt snapped for those five years with nobody to protect Hell's Kitchen? Maybe that can explain how the Kingpin rose to power and made his way out of prison so quickly. This could also explain why Matt's life is so different than where he left off at the end of season three, as perhaps Foggy and Karen weren't snapped and moved on in that time. Maybe it's possible that Matt wasn't snapped and was left to defend Hell's Kitchen from an increased level of crime? Whatever the answer may be, Daredevil offers a unique perspective and it would be interesting to see how the Blip changed his life.

It's safe to say that expectations are high for Daredevil: Born Again and fans couldn't be more excited to see the Man Without Fear in his own series once again. There's a lot riding on this series and many questions to be answered, but fans won't have to wait too much longer to start getting some when Daredevil appears in Echo in January of next year.
