Vice TV wrestling drama series Dark Side of the Ring shines a light on the darkest moments from the history of pro wrestling, and the strange death of Nancy Argentino is the next story the show will explore. After a successful first season, Dark Side of the Ring kicked off season 2 last month with a two-part episode focusing on the Benoit family murder-suicide along with its aftermath and lasting effect on the business. Going back to the '80s with their next episode, the series is now delving into another horrific death from pro wrestling's past, this one involving WWE Hall of Famer "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. You can watch the trailer for the episode below.

"Superfly" Jimmy Snuka is very well known to longtime wrestling fans, particularly famous for his run in the World Wrestling Federation in the '80s and '90s. At the height of his career, Snuka was tussling with the likes of other wrestling legends like the Undertaker, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, and "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. One of the most popular superstars of his era, Snuka was even featured in the cartoon series Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling with The Waltons star Lewis Arquette voicing the animated "Superfly." He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996 and continued to make sporadic appearances in subsequent years.

What many fans of the fan favorite wrestler may not realize is that Snuka is suspected of murdering his girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, in May 1983. Calling from their hotel room, Snuka requested emergency services when Nancy had somehow gotten severely injured with traumatic brain injuries. Autopsy findings also uncovered dozens of cuts and bruises, leading authorities to suspect domestic abuse. Snuka denied any wrongdoing and without sufficient evidence, the case went cold. 32 years later, murder and manslaughter charges were finally brought against Snuka in relation to Argentino's death, but by then, dementia had left the former wrestler unfit to stand trial. He died of stomach cancer just days after the charges against him were dismissed.

Other episodes in Dark Side of the Ring season 2 will explore the brutal murder of wrestler Dino Bravo; the "Brawl for All" tournament which injured its performers by placing pro wrestlers into legitimate boxing matches; the time wrestler David Schultz slapped a journalist on 20/20 for questioning the legitimacy of pro wrestling; the story of the Road Warriors, Hawk and Animal; promoter Herb Abrams' attempts to find success and his untimely demise; and the shocking death of Owen Hart, who fell from the rafters during a stunt gone awry in front of thousands of fans.

Dark Side of the Ring's "Jimmy Snuka and the Death of Nancy Argentino" episode will premiere on Tuesday, April 14 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Vice. New episodes will follow every Tuesday thereafter as the show's second season continues. We've certainly already seen a lot of dark territory explored through the annals of wrestling history by the series, but there's still plenty more left to come. Talk about a depressing business. Immediately after each episode, fans can also check out Chris Gethard hosting After Dark, the official after show for the series featuring special guests from the wrestling business.
