The gritty documentary series Dark Side of the Ring is reportedly eyeing a launch on Viceland for later this month, and several episode topics have also been revealed. Shining a light on the dark underside of the professional wrestling business, the first season of Dark Side of the Ring was just as heartbreaking as it was compelling in most cases. Consisting of six episodes, the freshman season concluded in May of last year, and though it had been reportedly renewed, it's remained unclear until now as to when new episodes of the dark documentary series would be premiering on the network to continue the show.

According to a new report from the PWInsider, the Viceland network is targeting late March for the launch date for Dark Side of the Ring season 2. As noted by the outlet, this timing would coincide with the lead-up to WWE's WrestleMania 36, which will be taking place on April 5. As WrestleMania is the pro wrestling business's biggest event of the year, most of WWE's mainstream attention is given during this time. It also pits the second season's start date fairly close to where the first season premiered last year, when Dark Side of the Ring first began airing in early April.

Season 2 will be much longer than the first season, consisting of ten episodes rather than six. However, only nine stories will reportedly be explored, meaning one of the topics will apparently be a two-parter. It's been theorized that the two-part episode will focus on the infamous murder-suicide of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their son Daniel back in 2007, as the scope of this particularly dark story would be difficult to adequately cover in the span of a single episode. Along with several of Benoit's colleagues in the business, the Benoit episode will feature interviews with Nancy's sister, Sandra Toffoloni, and Benoit's older son David from a previous marriage.

Several other topics have been listed in the report for inclusion in Dark Side of the Ring season 2. Along with the Benoit tragedy, our previous coverage of the season 2 renewal noted that the new episodes would include the real-life boxing tournament dubbed the "Brawl for All" and the mysterious death of pro wrestler Dino Bravo, who'd been shot by an unknown assailant nearly 20 times. Obviously, the title of the series continues to live up to its name in season 2.

Though other episode topics are yet to be revealed, a few more which have been reported to be featured are Owen Hart, the wrestler who fell to his death during a live show during a stunt gone wrong; indie wrestler New Jack, who's known for competing in particularly bloody hardcore matches; and Herb "Mr. Electricity" Abrams, a pro wrestling promoter who died in police custody during a cocaine binge.

We will have to stay tuned for an official release date for Dark Side of the Ring season 2, but it's nice to see that the new episodes should be here soon.
