UPDATE:Producer Scott Franklin revealed that Darren Aronofsky and Protozoa Pictures will not produce Intricate. Scott Franklin did say he gave notes on the project and introduced Brad Furman to a screenwriter, although he is not attached as producer.

Darren Aronofsky will team with The Lincoln Lawyer director Brad Furman for a new indie project entitled Intricate.

The project is based on the true story of a celebrated college basketball recruit who falls hard into the drug world after he washes out as a player. The story will be set in New York City, at a time when the drug world is connected with the growing rap music industry.

Brad Furman will direct the drama, with Darren Aronofsky and Scott Franklin will produce through their Protozoa Pictures banner. It isn't clear yet who will write the screenplay, although Brad Furman, Darren Aronofsky and Scott Franklin are all developing the picture.

No production schedule was revealed for Intricate. This project would mark a return to the drug realm for Darren Aronofsky, who directed the critically-acclaimed indie drama Requiem for a Dream in 2000.
