Universal pictures have hired 30 Days of Night scribe Stuart Beattie to write an upcoming adaptation of Laini Taylor's young adult novel Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

The first book of the trilogy tells the story of a young art student, who embarks on an unusual family quest to collect human teeth from around the globe. She find herself caught in the ancient struggle between devils and angels and falls in love with a forbidden warrior angel along the way.

Stuart Beattie is best known for his work on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Pirates of The Caribbean and is directing the upcoming horror I, Frankenstein.Oz: The Great and Powerful's Joe Roth is producing. No production schedule has been released.
