Actor Dave Bautista takes on a new kind of role in the thriller Knock at the Cabin, now playing in theaters. From director M. Night Shyamalan, the film features Bautista in the role of a mysterious stranger who, along with three others, approaches a family at their vacation home. He informs them that they must choose one person in the family to sacrifice in order to prevent the apocalypse, and things obviously descend much further into madness from there.

Bautista addressed his role in the film in a new interview with Variety. He touched on how the character appealed to him as he would give him a chance to deliver a much more dramatic performance. Bautista wanted to be challenged as an actor as he hopes that, by delivering, he will have earned the respect of his peers in Hollywood. As the actor explains, from the interview:

“I always search out interesting roles, but I take them as they come. I take some pride in what I do because I’m always searching for roles that will challenge me as an actor. I’ve got my year slated and I know what it’s going to look like, but I’m just looking for that next role that’s going to give me the same type of fulfillment as this. This fulfilled a lot of my wishes and dreams and what I’ve been asking for the last 10 years. I’m hoping this will win me a little bit of a respect factor amongst my peers because at the end of the day, it’s kind of what I’m after. I really want to be respected by my peers.”
