As the new DC universe begins to take shape leading up to The Flash's release, some loose ends from the past still linger. Among them is David Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad from 2016, a film that underwent significant changes in its post-productionSince the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, fans and the director himself have been asking for the same thing for Suicide Squad, so they can see the movie that Ayer wanted to tell and not what finally hit theaters. At the moment, it has not been confirmed that this version will be released, but the fight continues.Through his Twitter account, the director shared his own assessment of the film, comparing both versions, in response to a follower who later deleted his tweet:
"My cut isn’t perfect. But it’s vastly better than the studio hack job. People have seen it. The typical reaction is shock at how much better it is. This is across a sample of ages and fans and non fans. You’re speaking from negativity not openness."
In 2016's Suicide Squad, as the US government is unclear how to respond to an alien visit to Earth with evil intent, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), the leader of the secret agency A.R.G.U.S., offers a curious solution: recruit the cruelest villains, with lethal and even magical abilities, to work for them. Without too many options to say no, the eight most dangerous supervillains in the world agree to collaborate with the executive in dangerous secret missions, almost suicidal, in order to clean up their file.
What’s Next for DC?
After the failure of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which continues in theaters, all hopes are pinned on The Flash, the Andy Muschietti film that brings back Ezra Miller's Barry Allen adapting Flashpoint. However, it is not the only DC adventure that remains to be released this year.
In August, Xolo Mariduena will debut as Jaime Reyes in Blue Beetle, along with Susan Sarandon, Harvey Guillén, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Raoul Max Trujillo, Damián Alcázar, and George López.
In December, Jason Momoa will return as Arthur Curry in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the 2018 film that will continue the story of the King of the Seven Seas, although his future in the new DCU is uncertain.
