With rumors heating up surrounding the casting of Superman: Legacy, new fan artwork has been crafted up imagining David Corenswet as the titular superhero. Even before Superman: Legacy was announced by director James Gunn, many fans had been rooting for Corenswet to play Superman in a movie, given his abilities as an actor coupled with his physical resemblance to the character. A recent report from THR claims that Corenswet's name is actually in contention for the part, and while the rumor hasn't been verified, it's nevertheless set social media ablaze. On Instagram, digital artist @bobby_art shared some concept artwork picturing the potential casting. The artwork includes a peek at Corenswet in both of the character's identities: Clark Kent and the Man of Steel. The artist also shares his thoughts on why the actor is perfect to play the new Superman in Superman: Legacy."David is apparently a top contender for the role and I am here for it," the caption reads. "He’s a Juilliard trained actor like the Christopher Reeve, of Jewish heritage like the creators of Superman, has a ton of warm charisma in interviews, and he’s 6’4 at 29 years old. Plus the guy has said before that he wants the role. He is literally perfect."You can see the post below.

Indeed, Corenswet has previously expressed his interest in playing Superman. Back in 2019, he responded to the fan chatter over casting him as Superman in a new film and admitted that he sees that as a dream role. He also said his hope would be to play a much more colorful version of the character compared to Henry Cavill's version.

“It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me,” Corenswet told Entertainment Weekly. “But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”

It's possible that the fan interest helped put Corenswet in contention for the role, but nothing is officially confirmed at this time. James Gunn has previously warned fans not to believe anything when it comes to the casting of his films unless it's coming from him directly. With that said, he's also neither confirming nor denying the recent rumors of Corenswet and other actors auditioning for parts in the film, as he says that's up to the performers to decide if they ever want to divulge that information. Gunn also made it clear that the role of Superman himself still hasn't been cast just yet.

"For all of you asking, I would never comment on who is or isn’t AUDITIONING for a role," Gunn wrote on Twitter. "That’s the actor’s business only & isn’t something I’d make public unless they did it first after the fact (like [Glenn Howerton] or [Zachary Levi] having auditioned for Star-Lord & being top choices). For now, only one person has been CAST in Superman: Legacy, and it isn’t any of the regular players in the Superman world."

Superman: Legacy will be released in movie theaters on July 11, 2025.
