David Fincher is about to step into a great unknown. According to Variety, the director has signed on to direct Black Hole for Paramount. The film has been at the studio for quite some time, with Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) at one time set to direct.

The film, based off Charles Burns' graphic novel, revolves around a bug that gets passed on from teenager to teenager through sexual means. Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman, who both collaborated on Beowulf, were originally set to adapt this graphic novel back in 2006, but it's unclear if they are still attached to the project.

No production schedule has been announced as of yet.
