Stranger Things star David Harbour makes a grizzly Santa Claus in the first look at festive action outing, Violent Night. Released courtesy of the official Twitter account for Violent Night, Habour’s gruff-looking Saint Nick will be called into action when a band of mercenaries kidnaps a family on Christmas Eve. Something which we can all agree is not very Christmassy. You can check out the first look at David Harbour in Violent Night below.

You better watch out, and from the looks of Harbour’s Santa Claus you probably will cry. Displaying the same deathly intense star that he has used expertly in the likes of Stranger Things and Black Widow, Harbour cuts a surprisingly intimidating figure. A sense of intimidation that cannot even be watered down by the presence of a bright red Santa hat and candy cane.

From the creators of John Wick comes Violent Night, which casts Stranger Things and Hellboy star David Harbour as Santa Claus. But, rather than the cherub-cheeked Santa you’ve seen on countless Christmas cards, this one has a vicious streak. A vicious streak that he will demonstrate to those foolish enough to try and ruin someone’s holiday season. Described as a "coal-dark holiday thriller that says you should always bet on red," Violent Night begins when a group of mercenaries attack the estate of a wealthy family on Christmas Eve, forcing Santa to put down his sack and save Christmas. With bloody consequences.

Directed by Tommy Wirkola (The Trip, Dead Snow) from an original screenplay written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, Violent Night stars John Leguizamo, Beverly D'Angelo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, Cam Gigandet, and André Eriksen alongside David Harbour as Santa Claus.

While we have yet to see any footage from Violent Night, David Harbour has pretty convincingly gotten the hype train chugging, comparing the action movie to another Christmas action classic: Die Hard. "Escape is great. I'm a big fan. But what about movies that make you sweat? Don't you love action movies?” Harbour said while appearing at CinemaCon. “Who doesn't love a great action movie, right? How about Christmas movies? So, what about a movie that's a great action movie, and the greatest Christmas movie in one? Die Hard. F-cking Die Hard.”

He continued saying, “Now what if...wait a minute, wait a minute. What if kick ass director Tommy Wirkola and the badass producers at 87North, you know, the maniacs who did Atomic Blonde and John Wick and Nobody and Hobbs and Shaw, were behind it all? And, wait a minute, what if I started in it as f-cking Santa Claus? Oh, do I swing a mother f-cking hammer? Yes. What you're about to see is not an actual trailer, I don't think, but you better not cry to somebody. You better not pout. I'm telling you why. Because Santa Claus is coming to town. Let's f-cking go.”

Violent Night is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 2, 2022, by Universal Pictures.
