David Murray's name was originally being bandied about for the role of Destro in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra before the role ultimately went to former Doctor Who Christopher Eccelston. However, according to Hisstank.com Murray will still be playing Destro in the film - just not the Destro of the modern era.

Casting information acquired at the European Cinema Expo reveals that Murray will play the first Destro in the film in a flashback sequence. Murray's arc will come to explain how the Destro clan ended up being associated with the face-covering metal mask the character is known for.
