Disney XD is in talks with for several voice actors to star in the upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels, including David Oyelowo, Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steve Blum.

The news comes just days after our report that David Oyelowo recently read for an unspecified role in the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII. Could the actor have roles in both the live-action sequel and this animated TV series? It seems unlikely, but we'll have to wait until any official announcements are made.

No details were given regarding which characters these actors may portray, but they are all said to be up for lead roles. The story is set between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, as the Empire continues to wipe out any remaining Jedi Knights in existence, while, at the same time, the Rebel Alliance is being formed and Luke Skywalker is growing up on Tatooine.

Lucasfilm had to say about the potential casting.

"We don't have any casting announcements at the time but are excited about the series and look forward to sharing news with you in the future."

Simon Kinberg (Elysium) created the series and will serve as executive producer alongside Star Wars: The Clone Wars producers Dave Filoni and Greg Weisman. We reported in June that several cast and crew members from Star Wars: The Clone Wars will return for this series, set to debut with a one hour special on The Disney Channel before premiering as a weekly half-hour series on Disney XD.
