Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is getting a rewrite from franchise fix-it man Mark Bomback (Total Recall; Jack the Giant Slayer).

Matt Reeves (Let Me In; Cloverfield) is directing this sequel to the prequel, which was originally directed by Rupert Wyatt. The story will continue the evolution of the apes as they take over planet earth under the guidance of super-intelligent Caesar (Andy Serkis).

Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, the scribes behind Rise of the Planet of the Apes, wrote the initial draft for this follow-up, but Mark Bomback is being brought in to tailor the script more towards Matt Reeves' sensibilities. Mark Bomback also did touch ups on the first installment.
