It's hard to believe, but Dawson's Creek is now officially 20 years old. The hit show ran from 1998 to 2003 and became one of the most beloved teen dramas in television history. In addition, certain screen grabs have given the show new popularity in the meme world. Case in point: James Van Der Beek's (Dawson Leery) crying face is one of the most famous memes in history. Dawson's Creek took the teen drama format a step further with realistic life experience told through some mature dialogue that was refreshing at the time.

As far as the cast of Dawson's Creek, including Katie Holmes (Joey Potter), James Van Der Beek (Dawson Leery), Joshua Jackson (Pacey Witter), Michelle Williams (Jen Lindley), Busy Phillips (Audrey Liddell), Kerr Smith (Jack McPhee), Meredith Monroe (Andie McPhee), and Mary Beth Peil (Evelyn "Grams" Ryan), this is the first time that they've all been in the same room together in nearly 20 years. Holmes says, "I think we've all sort of seen each other over the years, but not everybody all together."

Dawson's Creek creator, Kevin Williamson, remembers catching flak for having the young characters talk like adults at the time. He notes that kids might not talk like that, but "they want to," which was a perfect answer. The formative teenage years are hard for kids, especially trying to articulate their feelings, which is something that Dawson's Creek excelled at. There were obviously some outlandish storylines that don't happen to all teenagers, like love triangles for instance, but for the most part, the show stayed true to the experience of growing up and learning who you are as a person. It's for this reason that the show became such a success and turned its young cast into stars.

For fans that weren't old enough to watch Dawson's Creek when it originally aired, they're currently able to watch the entire series on Hulu. Even though the show is now 20 years old, a lot of the main themes remain true to this day. In addition, fans who were old enough to remember the show are sharing it with their kids now, adding to the popularity and even an explanation or two about some famous memes at the very least.

The Dawson's Creek cast got back together for the 20th anniversary for a special edition of Entertainment Weekly that comes out this week and features 5 different collectible covers. There's tease to the article online now, but the rest of the story will drop this Friday when the issue hits newsstands.
