House at the End of the Street director Mark Tonderai has signed on to direct the Day of the Dead remake. We first reported on the project back in July, when Millennium Films came aboard.

The filmmaker co-wrote the screenplay with Lars Jacobson, which is set years after a zombie invasion wiped out most of the Earth's population. The story follows a group of scientists and survivors trying to discover a cure for the undead virus, but, instead, they open a dangerous Pandora's box in the process.

Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman are producing, with Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and Terry Dougas serving as executive producers. The studio and producers are eyeing a 2014 production start, with casting slated to begin very soon.

George A. Romero directed the original Day Of The Dead, which was released in 1985. Millennium Films was also behind the first Day of the Dead remake, which starred Mena Suvari and Nick Cannon and went straight to video in 2008.
