Hellraiser's Pinhead, or also known as the Hell Priest is officially coming to the popular horror survival video game, Dead By Daylight! The recent announcement comes after the team from Dead By Daylight had teased fans on their Twitter account. The teasers would show a static TV along with some flashing images, and the ringing of a bell. Pinhead is just one of several other infamous horror killers and monsters that developers, Behaviour Interactive, have implemented into the video game thus far. Check out the teaser from Dead By Daylight below.
Pinhead is a Cenobite in the Order of the Gash, and one of the main characters of the Hellraiser metaseries. Pinhead made his first appearance as an unnamed figure in the 1986 novella, The Hellbound Heart, written by Clive Barker. When Clive Barker later adapted his novella into the Hellraiser film in 1987, he then referred to the character in his early drafts as "the Priest", but the final film never gave him a name. The production and make-up crew of the 1987 film had nicknamed the character "Pinhead", and fans immediately accepted the nickname. The name "Pinhead" was then used in press materials, tie-in media, and on-screen in some of the sequel films.
Pinhead is one of the leaders of the Cenobites, which are said to be humans who were later transformed into demonic creatures that are devoted to the practice of experimental sadomasochism. The Cenobites exist in an extra-dimensional realm of Hell, and they are usually only summoned to Earth through puzzle boxes known as, the Lemarchand Configuration. The Hellraiser film series eventually reveals that Pinhead was actually once a British soldier named, Captain Elliott Spencer, who ended up becoming disillusioned with life and humanity due to his past experiences during World War I. This then lead him to summoning the Cenobites, and joining their ranks among them. Pinhead has also made several appearances in the Hellraiser comic book series.
In the Dead By Daylight video game, Pinhead will be referred to as, The Cenobite. Early gameplay has been revealed from the Player Test Build, which shows the leader of the Cenobites using his famous signature chains to torture the survivors, and dragging them into his home realm. Pinhead's abilities is meant to slow and disorient players from sprinting. The Cenobite is able to throw chains to players, which will require them to quickly try to break free before Pinhead catches them.
Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric survival horror video game developed by Behavior Interactive. The popular video game was released for Microsoft Windows back in June 2016. It was then later released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2017. Dead by Daylight was also eventually released on Nintendo Switch in September 2019. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions were later released in November 2020. The game itself is played as a one-versus-four online multiplayer where one player will take on the role as a savage killer, and the other four will play as survivors trying to escape the killer while avoiding being caught and sacrificed to a malevolent force known as, the Entity.
Pinhead from the Hellraiser franchise will be the latest playable killer as part of a new crossover DLC that comes out in September. With the new Hellraiser crossover, the infamous Hell Priest seems to be the only feature in the upcoming DLC. Alongside original characters, the horror survival video game already includes characters from various horror franchises such as, Halloween, Left 4 Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Saw, Evil Dead, Fun World's, Ghost Face, Stranger Things, Silent Hill, Crypt TV, Resident Evil, and now of course, Hellraiser. Although it has not been confirmed by Behaviour Interactive, a recent leak has indicated that the upcoming Hellraiser DLC will be releasing on September 7th.
